Katie Murdoch Genealogy & History Room

Research Policy

 

The Katie Murdoch Genealogy and History Room provides basic long-distance research services for a fee of $5.00 per half hour and 25 cents per page for copies. Basic research includes looking up articles or records on microfilm, in vertical files, books, periodicals or databases.


If the research is 10 pages or less, you have the option of receiving the material by e-mail, with no charge for copies.


For all other requests, please provide a mailing address.


Research requests should include any pertinent information, including known dates, family members, birth or death locations, etc. After research is completed, a letter or e-mail will be sent describing the information found and the cost of the research. Copies will be mailed or emailed after payment is received.


Research fees can be paid by check or money order to the Pope County Library System.

American Ancestors

This database includes the collections from the New England Historic Genealogical Society. It is available for patrons to use on the public Genealogy computers in the Katie Murdoch Genealogy and History Room.

 

Ancestry Library Edition

This is an extensive genealogy website available for patrons to use on the public computers in the Atkins, Dover, Hector, and Russellville branches of the Pope County Library System.

 

HeritageQuest

This database includes census, military, immigration records and more. It is available to all PCLS patrons through the Arkansas State Library Traveler subscription.

 

HistoryGeo

This database includes the First Landowners Project covering over 9 million records in 21 states and the Antique Maps Collection.

Pope County Family Files

This collection includes files about families with Pope County ties. PCLS GENEALOGY GROUP

The Pope County Library System Genealogy Group meets every month on the fourth Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The meetings vary between genealogy topic discussions, research nights, and guest speakers. Everyone is welcome to attend!

 

The PCLS Genealogy Group is currently working on a county-wide cemetery project. Members are taking photos of gravestones and creating an updated index for each cemetery in Pope County.
