Transcription:
"Here today (29—VII—1910). Tis a Roman Basilica; transmogrified into a Saxon Church in 655, burnt by the Danes in 870. The walls still show firemarks. Heads of arches made of Roman brick.
In a stone reliquary is still preserved part of the laryny of St. Boniface the English Bishop of Muintz (9th Cent.) Visited four Saxon Churches yesterday, besides Peterbourough Cathedral. Have see two churches earlier in the tour that have Saxon towers—St. Michael's Oxford & St. Benedict's Cambridge. Ely was grand. Kind Regards, A.G.C."
