On Saturday, August 15th, we learned that an employee at the PCLS Hector Public Library has tested positive for/contracted the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, and is quarantining at home. We immediately contacted staff members who might have had direct exposure to this employee, and confirmed there were three. Those three were tested for COVID and self-quarantined until August 18th, when they were each notified that their test results were negative. The employee also identified where they had been exposed to and contracted the virus, and it is completely unconnected to PCLS. The employee has not returned to work at the library since August 11th.
Having test results come back negative for our three exposed staff members is an encouraging sign that the mask requirements, hand sanitizer, and other safety protocols we have implemented are helping keep people safe. However, because the safety and well-being of our employees and our patrons is our top priority,we are closing the Hector Branch this week, August 17-23, and prior to reopening on August 24th, it will be cleaned and disinfected. We also recommend that visitors to the Hector Branch on or around August 4-11th should self-monitor for any symptoms.
This is the first known instance of a PCLS library staffmember testing positive for COVID-19. Any future incidents of potential COVID-19 exposure at PCLS libraries will be posted at popelibrary.org.
