Printed description:
"Plaza and Soldiers Monument. Santa Fe, New Mexico. All settlements and towns built by the Spaniard or Mexican were built around a public square or plaza. It was the market place. This has been the scene of nearly all the great historic events occurring in the Capitol during the past three centuries. The soldiers' monument was erected three years after the close of the Civil War. And reflects the sectional feeling of those days—the Confederates are referred to as "Rebels.""

Transcription:
"This old plaza is today — exactly as when first built — there has been no change what ever except concrete walks instead of gravel."
