Typed description:
"Long ago when the saddle horse and overland stage followed beaten trails up and down rugged mountain wildernesses, a day's journey lay between points we now pass in a half—hour's ride behind our horse of steel. Then each peculiarity of nature in any section was relatively more prominent than now, and the name it bore had usually some local significance. Hence, Johnson's Canyon, a picturesque gorge a few miles west of Wiliams, bears the name of a one time local character."
