Russellville, Arkansas: The Pope County Library in Russellville will host Arkansas artist / author Sean Fitzgibbon on Saturday, February 8, at 11:00 am.  Fitzgibbon explores unusual, real places and events through his work. He has an MFA in art and a passion for making art and visual storytelling. Fitzgibbon is a 2021 Artists 360 recipient and a 2022 recipient of the Arkansas Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship Award for his Kirkus starred, graphic nonfiction book What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel. This documentary-style graphic nonfiction book explores the Crescent Hotel’s strange two years as the Baker Hospital, one of the darkest and most controversial legends in the town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Fitzgibbon is developing and producing art for a new graphic nonfiction book about the history, folklore, and science surrounding Plum Bayou Mounds – an indigenous Native American site and National Historic Landmark. According to the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas, “Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park (previously the Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park) near Scott (Pulaski and Lonoke counties) is one of Arkansas’s most significant pre-European archaeological sites.” Fitzgibbon is collaborating on this project with Dr. Paige Ford, an archeologist with the Arkansas Archeological Survey, and an advisory committee composed of educators, community members, and others.

The public is invited to attend this free event.
