Russellville, Arkansas:  The Pope County Library System has begun registration for their free annual Summer Reading Program.  Registrants will track their reading progress through June and July to earn prizes.  Participants of all ages may register in person at any Pope County library or online through the Reading Program page on the library system’s website at popelibrary.org.  Reading logs will be available beginning on Friday, May 30. (SRP registration is not required to attend events.)

This year’s theme is Color Our World, and each library has developed their own set of related programs.  The Pope County Library in Russellville will focus on various arts related topics, including drawing, painting, fiber art, photography, 3D art, writing, storytelling, and performing arts.  The Dover Library will highlight colors through different cultures; in particular, their Monday morning storytimes will feature a different author every week.  The Atkins Library programs will center around a wonderland of colors, and the Hector Library will focus on the colors of nature.

The first week of June will feature a Kickoff at each library, beginning with Dover Library on Monday, June 2, at 10:00 am with Mollie Mays from Lake Dardanelle State Park.  Atkins Library will host their Kickoff the same day at 1:00 pm with a reading from Jan Brett’s The Umbrella and a colorful rainstorm experiment.  Hector Library’s Kickoff features Smokey Bear and representatives from the Big Piney Ranger Station on Tuesday, June 3, at 10:00 am, and the Russellville Kickoff will be held Saturday, June 7, beginning at 10:00 am with a Community Art Project and continuing with activities for all ages.
