Pope County, Arkansas: The Pope County Library System will host several more speakers as they continue with their Color Our World Summer Reading Program in July. Local author Kellie Van Es, a retired teacher, will speak at storytime in Dover, Russellville, and Atkins. Van Es is a volunteer with Equestrian Zone Dardanelle and will share books she has written about horses. Families are invited to meet Ms. Van Es Monday, July 7, at 10:00 am in Dover; Wednesday, July 9, at 10:00 am in Russellville; and Monday, July 28, at 1:00 pm in Atkins.
Tasia C. Taylor, author of Ice Cream Disaster, returns to the Library System on July 12, at 10:00 am for a special Saturday storytime in Russellville. The Atkins Library will welcome Officer Steve from the Atkins Police Department on Saturday, July 12, at 1:00 pm. Children’s author/illustrator Carol Dabney will be the special guest at a reservation only tea party at the Dover Library on Wednesday, July 16, at 11:00 am. The Dover Library will also welcome Marty Boone, the Magic Balloon Man, for a special appearance to be held July 21, at 10:00 am, at Dover First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 149 SR 164 E. Marty appeared on America’s Got Talent and is Arkansas’ top balloon artist and magician.
The Pope County Library Genealogy and Arkansas History Department will host Jane A. Wilkerson from the Arkansas State Archives for a presentation titled Immigration and Genealogy Research: What to Look for and Where to Find It on Thursday, July 17, at 5:30 pm. Wilkerson will explain how immigration and the laws that surround it have changed over the years and how that might affect your genealogy research.
The Pope County Library YA Department has booked local multi-award-winning independent singer-songwriter and performer Some Guy Named Robb (Robb McCormick) for a special mini-workshop, also to be held Thursday, July 17, at 5:30 pm. McCormick will perform some of his songs and discuss his writing technique. This is a can’t miss free opportunity for Teens and Adults interested in the song writing process.
